Designed for intermediate to advanced students, this course provides an opportunity to learn how to paint realistic and strong pieces using a mix of classical and contemporary approaches. Focusing on portraiture, supported by exercises in observational studies, you will work from life models, still life set-ups and reference images as you’re guided through key processes such as composition, tonal value, brush technique, colour preparation and glazing.
Ben Howe is one of Melbourne’s most formidable painters of photo realism, and is highly regarded for his consistent and considered body of work which is both collected and exhibited on a regular basis. Ben’s serious approach to the making of art gives students the opportunity to receive mentoring from an artist who is true to the traditional expectation of one who lives and breathes the making of images.
