Students of all levels are invited to dive into this exciting Summer intensive that will develop and extend your skills in observational drawing and painting, with two of Melbourne’s most renowned and respected tutors, Geoff Dupree and Ignacio Rojas. This course will provide the unique opportunity to immerse yourself fully over six days, where you will see a profound improvement of both your skills and understanding of observational art featuring nude models.

Unit 1: Figure Drawing with Geoff Dupree

The emphasis of the life drawing unit is how to start seeing a visual situation as a whole landscape of shapes and forms, thus learning how to deal with space using honest and concentrated observation. Students who have studied with Geoff leave his teachings with an enhanced ability to piece together various parts of a scene into articulate and resolved drawings that retain a strong element of individual touch and expression. Over the course of three days, you will complete a series of rich life drawings primarily in charcoal.

Unit 2: Figure Painting with Ignacio Rojas

Painting the human figure is often viewed as complex and unreachable by many developing artists; whether you are a beginner student or slightly more experienced, this unit will enrich your ability to complete strong figure studies using oil paints. Ignacio will focus on Ala Prima (wet on wet) techniques which are perfect for life painting situations both in the studio and outdoors, and students will also develop a deeper yet more simple approach to colour palettes and mixing. Throughout this unit, you will have the opportunity to complete a strong series of figure studies in oils.
