Based on the famous classical teaching methodology of Charles Bargue (1827 – 1883), this course trains the eye to recognise and copy shapes which can be applied to the observation of nature.
Unlike contemporary drawing approaches that encourage gesture and self-expression, in this class we will concentrate on accuracy, solidity and finish.
Over the course of the 9 weeks, you will learn:
- Shape recognition
- Basic tonal perception
- Linear relationships
- Simplified expression of form
The lessons learnt from this training are directly applicable to working from a life model.
This course is suitable to all people who wish to learn and improve their drawing skills. From an absolute beginner who is seeking a strong formal foundation in drawing to an experienced artist who wishes to upgrade their skills, participants who commit to the effort involved in these classes will see a huge transformation in their current capacity to draw.
Returning students have the option to advance to a more sophisticated Bargue plate, making use of their skills gained in Term 2.
Please note that students are required to bring or purchase their own materials from the studio for this course. Before confirming your booking, please read our terms and conditions thoroughly as we are unable to offer refunds, credits or transfers.
